| | Material Issue: "Valerie Loves Me" | ] | ok, so i lead a pretty sheltered life. i was born and raised in a city
called kirkwood, and then at age 14, i moved to marthasville mo. Since
then, i've grown to hate major cities (especially St. Louis, which just
moved up to #1 on the list of the most crime filled cities) the people
are so rude, crazy and mean. i had this interview to go into AXA
Advisors on Wednesday, and they are located in the Merrill Lynch
building in downtown Clayton. the first thing (for those not living in
missouri) Clayton is right next to Ladue, the most expensive city in
Missouri, where some of the super rich live. if you work in clayton,
you make big bucks, live in a $500,000+ home, and you drive at least a
$60,000 car.
So, i drive to the building without getting lost (a pretty amazing feat
for myself, since i'm directionally challenged) and there's parallel
parking! i've never parallel parked before (like i said i leave a
sheltered life) and finally found a space and parked without a problem.
it took me a minute to check the parking meter (never used one of
those either) it had an hour an a half on it! So i went up to the
interview and everything was cool. Basically i got the job, but i have
to get my series 7. Yeah, that's what i didn't want to hear. Series 7
is a license for stocks, bonds, mutual funds and annuities. It took me
long enough to pass my life and health tests, and the series 7 is like
5865726 times harder, plus it costs $550 to take it (cost might be
different where you live) so i asked them if i could just hold off on
the series 7 for a year or so, and they said maybe 2 months, but not a
year.
So i'm not sure if i'm ready to work for a place like AXA. Sure you
make tons of money, but you work a minimum of 80 hours a week. What's
the fun of making money and not spending it? i have another lead for a
company called Mid-West based in O'Fallon that sounds promising.
And i finally got my number from cornerstone, the the kicker is the
fact that the guy left me a message on my cell phone after i got home
last night (since i live in a vally, i get no cell phone service) so i
could have been on the website since last night! things like that make
me re-consider the professionalism of this place.
thanks for reading my stuff!

| | Boy Hits Car: "As I Watch The Sun Fuck The Ocean" | ] | well, i feel better then i have in the past couple of days, friday was regular didn't do much, had a meeting at the insurance company i've been working with, and got some bad news. First of all, I'm not what you'd call a quick decision maker when it comes to my job. i like to be very careful, and i make sure i like the place before i commit to it.
Well, i've been with cornerstone since the end of september. the only thing i had to do was get a license for health and life: sounds simple, right? well, it's not! Fuggin test took me forever to pass, but eventually i did. Before that i had told cornerstone one day (after failing the test) that i was never going to pass these tests, and that i was thinking about going back into computers. well the district manager i talked to said that if i was still welcome back anytime, just call and let them know. after christmas i took my life and passed the test, then about 2 weeks later took my health and passed it. I called cornerstone and told them i passed and wanted to get going. The district manager said i would have to fill out a new contract for the new year, but that was it. so i headed down to the offices and filled out the new contract, and the district leader told me in about 3 days i would have my number that would allow me to log into the site and do the product training, so i waited.
Since then i've been getting things together (built an office desk, got file cabnets, etc). So 3 days turned into 2 and a half weeks, and by then i was calling every other day. Finally i went in on friday to find out what was going on. Well, it turns out that the district manager "thought" that the contract was enough to get me back in, but the head office told him that they would need to run another security check on me. The first one was bad enough, cause i had to pay the entire amount ($263.00) and now they were asking for another one!! I was pissed when i found that out, i understand checking on the people you are going to hire, but this felt like they were milking money out of me. On top of that, they didn't pay for any tests or schooling i took, so i was already $600+ in the hole when the district manager asked for another $263 for another background check. The district manager knew i was pissed and didn't have the money, so he told me he was going to send in the money, and he would only make me pay half.
So i left on friday kinda pissed, but feeling better because soon i was going on appointments (each appointment equals between $300-$400, so you can make money fast, and money makes me happy!)
So on saturday i told my parents what had happened, and my dad and i got into a fight, he thinks cornerstone is just an evil company and they couldn't care if i worked for them or not, and how they ripped me off, and how i need to start making money cause he was not going to give me any more. Since October, i've been borrowing money from my parents to pay my bills, I'm into them for $6,000.00 now, and my dad's cutting me off, so i had to think about the whole cornerstone thing. i wanted to sell life insurance more than health because it's easier, and you make more money in the long run, plus health insurance is so confusing right now, and the prices are skyrocketing, which means more and more people are going to open MSA's (Medical Saving Account) and just self-insure themselves. Also was the fact that the whole cornerstone thing is a little shady. every time i go into a meeting, there's new people there. Once i asked about a few people i hadn't seen in a while, and the only answer i got was "they still work for us". They (cornerstone) also has a "salesmen" feeling to them i don't like, they have the appearance of a car salesman, like they think of you as another commission instead of a person. i weighed the good and and bad and felt like there was more good than bad. I went to sleep at 11:00 on saturday, which is supper early for me, in fact i hadn't been in bed before midnight in over a month!
Sunday was a good day, my mom told my sister what was going on with cornerstone, and she put me in contact with the agent that sold her a term policy back in june. i talked to him, and he gave me his boss's name and number, and told him to give him a call. he tole me he would tell his boss to expect my call, and hopefully i could get an interview on wed. The company's name is Axa, and they sound much better than cornerstone. DK, if you're reading this then let me say I'm glad cornerstone wasn't in your area, cause i don't think it would have turned out for the best! But this Axa place has been around much longer than cornerstone, and they sell life, health, annuities, and they get into financial planning, but most of their business comes from life insurance. The biggest thing i liked is there is no competition between agents, and everybody meets for 3 hours on monday evening to talk about what going on the current week, and talk strategy and things like that. overall they sound much more like insurance agents instead of salesmen like cornerstone.
i just hope they look like they sound, cause I'm running out of time, and I'm already out of money (until taxes check comes in)
That's it for now, sorry for the long read, wish me luck tomorrow! |

slap bitch! ( i heard the above on the Dave chapelle(sp?) show, and i thought it was pretty funny) so anyway, nothing much happened today i studied some of my insurance stuff, un-loaded a shitload of wood because we ran out and still have a month or two before it starts to get warmer. i was in a crappy mood this afternoon, and i don't know why. i started watching a movie, and about 15 minutes into it, i felt like playing a game. so i popped morrowind in my xbox, and played that for about 5 minutes then just didn't feel like playing anymore.
I've been feeling a lot like that lately, not really interested in the things i like. maybe I'm outgrowing games, or maybe it's the lack of money or both. god, this sounds depressing! about the only thing i really did today was read, i read about 200 pages of the 5th harry potter book. I'm still waiting for my insurance code to come, so i can train on the website and get certified. Once I'm certified then i can go out and start selling, thank god my tax money is coming, so that will hold me over for another month, but after being out of work since june, I'm not really looking forward to work.
That's it for tonight, I've got a insurance meeting tomorrow at 10:00, and hopefully I'll get my number so i can get going |
